About Me
Hi! My name is Rachel Slidell. I am currently a freshman at the University of Florida, with the credits of a junior. I have serving experience and experience working with kids. I enjoy traveling and meeting new people in different places. This is why I got the idea for "Let's Hang".
About Let's Hang
Let's Hang will use your location and connect you to other people your age and with similar interests. It will be similar to a dating app, but rather than connecting you with someone to have an intimate relationship with, you will be connected with someone to have a platonic relationship with. Someone you can hang out with, or meet up with at an event.
About the Customer
The demographic that would use this app would mainly be college kids. I'm gearing towards 18-25 year olds. Especially those that move to a new area. Freshmen in college would be a good target because coming to a large campus could be overwhelming and this app could help alleviate some of that social anxiety.
Why Care
This app is a friendly easy way to meet new people. It is important for those that feel anxious about meeting new people, but still want to have company. It is also great for just meeting up with people when going to new places, such as festivals, or just vacation.
We're Different
Let's Hang is different in that most apps for connecting people are solely to connect them for sexual and intimate reasons. So this app will be completely friendly and causal.
I think these elements fit together pretty well for the most part, but the idea definitely needs some tweaking. I know that there are apps out that are similar to this, but they aren't common and I think this idea could be tweaked to be better. The differentiation of the app needs the most working on.
Feedback Memo
The biggest thing that I took away from my feedback on the elevator pitch was that there are already apps out similar to this one. I was told I needed a better way to stand out as well. But as far as feedback for the idea napkin, the comments on my first one were focused on the idea itself, which I have since changed. I decided to try and go a completely different route with my second customer interview and elevator pitch. But for the third one, I went back to my first idea and used the comments to try and improve it.
Rachel, great idea. My company uses an app that is somewhat similar to this to track employees who travel and lets you know who is in the same location at a given time. I have used it to meet teammates I would never know were in the same location otherwise. For your idea, one suggestion I would make is to include feedback from hangees. Maybe you could also offer incentives to those who get frequent positive feedback to encourage friendly encounters. Great job. ReplyDeleteRachel,
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your post, I have a few questions. Is there a great need for this around our university? Do students really need an app just to hangout with people that is not for dating? I feel like our department of student involvement satisfies this need by hosting over 900+ organizations around campus for students to feel apart of a community and connect with others. I think you should find a niche for this product that is more than just a friendly hangout app!

Hi Rachel!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on this assignment! I think your idea for an app that connects you to people in a platonic way is great. I agree that when you come to a big university as a freshman, it can be overwhelming and at times, hard to meet people. This app would definitely help make a big place seem much smaller. Good luck with this app! Here is the link to my post: http://myent3003blog.blogspot.com/2016/03/idea-napkin-no-2.html
Rachel,
ReplyDeleteThe format of your blog is really easy to read and organized. I think this is a great idea. I came to UF as an out of state student and didn't know anyone. I definitely think I would've used this app, as I would've been able to meet new people and make friends. Keep up the good work and check out my blog:
