I never think about this sort of thing so this is kind of challenging to come up with a list of what I think makes me different from other people. Especially because I feel that at least a small percentage of the world all share commonalities. But here is my attempted list at what makes my human capital unique.
1. I'm dramatic when I tell stories.
Whenever I tell a story, I get really into it with voices, hand motions and dramatic build up. This is something that all my friends have pointed out to me and I get told that it makes the story more interesting. I feel that with my elaborate story telling, I would be able to dramatize a sales pitch, for a business example, and get the customer so into my pitch that they feel obligated to buy the product.2. I obtained the IB diploma.
Yes, plenty of people have gotten their IB diploma, but I feel this is very important to me because this program helped shape who I am today. It opened my mind to so many different subjects and ideas. I was exposed to diverse cultures in each class. I was stepping outside of my comfort zone to get all the volunteering required done and to go above and beyond in each subject. IB has made me a more open minded and curious person.
3. I'm frank.
I don't beat around the bush and I always tell it how it is. I'm not one to conform with what everyone else agrees with. I will always refute what someone says if I have a different opinion and feel it is appropriate to state it.
4. I'm independent.
I would consider myself highly independent. I don't rely on anyone or blame anyone for something going amiss in my life. I feel like I am the determinant of my fate, so I must fully rely on myself. My parents also left me alone more than half of my high school career which taught me to be more independent.
5. I'm ambitious.
I feel that my ambition is derived from my independence. I am the typeof person that wants to prove other people wrong. If someone thinks I can't do something, I will put my full effort into it and strive for success.
Joey had discussed my humor and how because I am humorous, I am also a great communicator. I can definitely see where he is coming from with that idea. He also mentions my empathy and ability to relate to people.
Alison talks about how I don't put up with other people's bull shit pretty much. She discusses the fact that I'm not afraid to stand up for myself. I described myself as being frank in the beginning of the post and she pretty much laid my frankness from another perspective.
Mike talks about how I am able to put myself in a variety of situations and try and see it from other people's perspective. This relates to what Joey had said about me being empathetic, but Mike just elaborates on my open mind.
Mackenzie talks about how I will always do me no matter what. She discusses the fact that I don't care what others think. As I do agree with this, it sounds a bit negative. It's not necessarily that I don't care what others think, I'm just very comfortable in myself and my own opinions, that if you don't agree, I accept it.
Reflection
I wasn't really sure what my friends were going to say that made me unique and I was somewhat surprised, yet pleasantly content with what they had all said. They all pretty much alluded to the fact that I will do and say exactly what I feel, but I am also open minded and will try and see a situation from everyone's perspective. I've definitely been working on that over the years because I feel that when you can relate to people and understand where they are coming from, they will trust in you more and come to you for help.
Rachel, great job with the assignment! I find your secret sauce quite unique. It is always funny having a person who really delves into a great story. Also, being frank is a great attribute as it saves time and people can rely on you as an honest person. The people you interviewed seemed to agree with your list, which is a great sign because you and your friends seem to know you very well. It's always great to strive for success. However since I was raised in a different culture. I generally like to keep saying opinions that might possibly hurt other people's feelings into consideration. Your characteristics sound like my sister, so I can see how people enjoy talking with you. A great leader has a strong voice and opinion. Great Post!
