World's Biggest Problems

1. Lack of clean water in third world countries. Many people struggle just to get a glass of water a day to survive. Families are forced to walk miles to get to the closest source of water, and even then, it’s rare to find clean water. This causes people to fall ill and die.
Solution: Create a cost friendly device that can be placed in the ground to transport and filter water to villages.

2. Extinction of species. Species that humans rely on for food will become extinct, creating a domino effect in which humans will die out shortly after. If species become extinct, the food pyramid will be in trouble.
Solution: Create a hunting quota for species that are endangered. Raise prices on the meat of the animals that are becoming endangered to lower the demand until the species can replenish.

3. Climate change- global warming. As carbon dioxide increases in the atmosphere, the carbon dioxide cycle is moving too quickly for the earth to adjust to it, causing the average temperature of earth to increase. Animals that thrive in cold climates will not survive, and eventually our water will evaporate and life will not be sustainable on earth.
Solution: Reduce the use of carbon dioxide with “green” alternatives. Set regulations that force people to cut back on how much carbon dioxide is released into the air.

4. The exponentially increasing population. People are having more and more children, while people are also living longer. This causes a problem of sustainability. If the population increases too rapidly, we will run out of resources and people will begin to die.
Solution: Limit the amount of children a family can have. Also research ways in which we can sustain human life more efficiently and effectively.

5. Poverty. Poverty is a problem in every country in the world. People are unable to buy the necessary items to sustain life, such as food, water and shelter. They are walking on a fine line between life and death.
Solution: The only way to help people that are impoverished is too give them an opportunity to generate an income to get out of it. If education is made more available to those who can’t afford it, they would be able to learn a skill that they can use to generate income to come out of poverty.

6. Terrorism. Terrorism is a problem that can happen anywhere, at any given moment. Terrorists take the lives of many, and sometimes even their own. They rip families apart, and tear down things that bring people together such as monuments, churches and schools.
Solution: Terrorism is extremely hard to fix and prevent because anyone can be a terrorist, and anywhere. One way to help prevent terrorism is to have stricter gun control. This is an issue in America right now being addressed. Background checks can be made more intensive for owning a gun and that may help with terrorism.

7. World hunger. Many humans suffer from malnourishment, more specifically under nourishment. They are unable to obtain food because poverty, corrupt governments and lack of resources. Thus resulting in many unnecessary deaths. The children and elderly suffer the greatest from under nutrition because of their weak bodies.
Solution: Governmental regulations on grocery stores to not waste food, but distribute that food to those in need. Also, possibly creating a global committee focused on the end of world hunger through taxes and regulations.

8. Obesity. Obesity is a huge epidemic that is sweeping nations and causing many health problems. People aren’t eating properly or exercising properly.
Solution: Spread awareness on the importance of portion control, eating clean, cooking at home and daily exercise.

9. Discrimination. People create prejudices against races and sexes. With these prejudices, discrimination happens. People are not given equal opportunities causing some to be stuck in a lower position never given the same opportunities as others.
Solution: My solution to this problem would be to spread awareness on the issue. Educate leaders on the subject and they will influence those below them. Then have ways to have ones sex and race unidentifiable by those determining their fate.

10. AIDS epidemic. AIDS is a disease that takes the lives of many. It’s rapidly spread, and needs to stop being spread so much or the human race could all eventually become affected.
Solution: Educate people on how AIDS is spread. Give people condoms and others things to help prevent the spread of the disease.

  1. Hi Rachel, your world's biggest problems list is very thorough and I felt your explanation and solutions given were well thought out. Great job on explaining the problem and what you felt some solutions may be in solving these problems. I had similar items on my list as well, and will be interesting to see how we rank these in areas of importance.

  2. Hi, first off, great job! I wrote about very similar topics so I agree with what you are saying. I think that the environment needs more attention and it seems you place importance on other world issues similar to this topic. Access to clean drinking water is a big one for a lot of people that often gets overlooked in the big picture. Great job! Here is the link to my blog: http://phatblogz.blogspot.com
