Week 3 Reading Reflection

1) What was the biggest surprise for you in the reading? In other words, what did you read that stood out the most as different from your expectations?
The biggest surprise to me was the different types of risks that entrepreneurs are faced with. It’s been drilled into my head at this point that entrepreneurs are huge risk takers, but I had no idea that they were faced with so many different types of risks. The one that surprised me the most was the psychic risk. It seems very logical, it’s just something that I never would have considered.

2) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
I had to re-read the section titled “The Entrepreneurial Ego” a couple of times to understand what the author was talking about, but after reading all four, then re-reading the introduction to the section, I understood that he was stating that they could be helpful, but also destructive.
3) If you were able to ask two questions to the author, what would you ask? Why?
One question I could ask the author is his thoughts on how to practice team building as an entrepreneur. I would ask him this because team building could be approached in different ways depending on the position. For example, team building for a manager may be more of having your team follow you and team building for an entrepreneur would be more about respect and commitment.
Another question I would ask the author is how much stress is good for an entrepreneur? To what extent should an entrepreneur delegate and relieve stress before they become ordinary? I agree with the author that stress can increase a person’s efficiency and improve performance.
4) Was there anything you think the author was wrong about? Where do you disagree with what she or he said? How?
I think the author was spot on with all of his explanations. As I was reading I began to come up with different scenarios that contradicted what he had said, but as I continued to read, he clarified all of these points. His arguments were all very clear, and supported to an extent that makes it very difficult for me to disagree with him.
